Virunga National Park
If there is one park in all of Africa you should visit, it is Virunga National Park. This is the first official park in Congo that still exists. It was created in 1925 by King Albert and unsurprisingly called Albert National Park which was renamed later to Virunga National Park.
From Rwanda, a great circuit would begin in Goma town with a hike to the top of mount Nyiragongo followed by a visit to the mountain gorillas near Djomba. Then travel south by a fast boat to Bukavu, visit the eastern low land gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park, and then leave through the Ruzizi border crossing to cyangugu. This would take roughly a week and you would see some of the best sites the DR Congo has to offer.
Likewise a visit from Uganda could begin in Bunagana with the visit to the mountain gorillas of Djomba. Then continue north to visit the Rwindi plains, the gorillas of Tshiabirimu, then continue east from Beni to see hippos at Ishango and climb the Ruwenzori's at Mutwanga before departing to Kasindi. I'd recommend two weeks for this programme.
